When you think of Hong Kong, what comes to mind? Dim sum? Tight spaces? Crowds? Heat? Neon signs?
Whatever that image is, it’s probably not romance-related. Hong Kong isn’t the city people immediately think of when it comes to romance (that goes to Venice or Paris), but hey, a romantic atmosphere can be found in every city.
Whether you’re travelling with a long-term partner, planning a first romantic getaway, celebrating an anniversary, or going on a normal date, here are some of the most romantic places in Hong Kong.
This is your guide to romance in Hong Kong. Let’s get started!
12 Romantic Places in Hong Kong to Visit:
1) Victoria Peak

This one is the most obvious, and that’s why it’s on top of the list.
Victoria Peak is an iconic tourist attraction because it offers a bird’s-eye view of Hong Kong.
While there are multiple ways to reach the Peak, everyone’s favourite way to travel up is via the Peak Tram. The Peak Tram represents a piece of Hong Kong history, and it’s a thrilling journey to soar up to Victoria Peak. Visitors can see the Hong Kong skyline from different angles on the Peak tram, creating more photo opportunities.
This tourist attraction is beautiful regardless of the time of day, but to add a notch in the romance department, come here at night. The skyscrapers light up the sky, making it the perfect backdrop for countless sweet couple photos.
Other than taking a few mandatory photos of the Hong Kong skyline, stroll around the area and see what it has to offer, including Madame Tussauds, The Peak Lookout, Sky Terrace 428, The Peak Galleria, and more.
2) Macau
Okay, I’m aware that Macau is a whole other city and not in Hong Kong, but it’s too good not to be included.
Since Macau is only about an hour away, tourists often combine Hong Kong and Macau during their vacation. They would hop over to Macau for a day trip, and it totally makes sense.
As a former Portuguese colony, you can see European influences around the city in the architecture, charming streets, Portuguese restaurants, and even hotel names like The Londoner and The Parisian.
It will feel like you went to a European city without stepping foot outside of Asia.
Many tourists are drawn to Macau because it’s Asia’s Las Vegas, and the city does exceptionally well with their beautiful hotels. In fact, Macau seems to be constantly churning out new hotels. Still, the Venetian will always be a popular choice because of all the stores and restaurants inside the massive hotel.
A recommended romantic activity is the Gondola ride at the Venetian. Your boat driver will create a romantic atmosphere; with a bit of imagination, it will almost feel like you’re in Venice, Italy.
3) Junk Boat

At some point in your Hong Kong trip, consider taking a junk boat cruise. It’s romantic and lets you take part in something cultural.
A junk boat is a symbol of Hong Kong and an image that often comes to mind when you think of the city.
This cruise will take anywhere from 45 minutes to one hour. This time lets you truly appreciate the Hong Kong harbour view. It’s a peaceful time and provides photo opportunities that aren’t rushed and crowded.
Get in the mood and time by sailing across the water at night, feeling like the city is in the palm of your hand.
4) Star Ferry

Not everyone will like being on a junk boat. Possible reasons include the price or getting seasick easily. The alternative is taking the Star Ferry. The Star Ferry is a public transportation option with multiple routes, but locals usually take it to travel between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon.
Escape the city noise by taking the Star Ferry. The ride is much shorter, and it’s only about 10 minutes.
Plus, the price is much lower, and you never have to wait long for another Star Ferry to cross the harbour.
5) Victoria Harbour
Not everyone likes boat-related activities because they might get seasick, so stay on land at Victoria Harbour.
Walk along the open-air pathway from the Star Ferry Terminal to K11 Musea. During this 10-15 minute walk, you’ll pass through multiple attractions like the Clock Tower, the Avenue of Stars, and Hong Kong Space Museum.
Since Hong Kong is hot 90% of the year (one of the biggest cons of the city in my opinion), I recommend taking a romantic stroll here at night by the water when the temperature is cooler, along with the gorgeous evening view. The vibe at Victoria Harbour from day to night is completely different. Depending on how long you are in Hong Kong, try to schedule time in your itinerary to see how both compare.
6) Flower Market

When it comes to romance, flowers are often an accessory that contributes to a romantic atmosphere. Where better to go than to be surrounded by dozens of flower shops?
The flower market in Mong Kok is the place to go to buy fresh flowers or anything flower-related.
When it comes to romantic places in Hong Kong, so far in the list, I’ve talked about going at night. However, visiting the flower market can be something you can do in the morning, as most stalls open around 9:30 am.
There’s the freshest stock to choose from, and although shops usually offer discounts at the end of the day, try your luck. I came here early in the morning twice, and both times, different stores offered me a lower price.
7) Fine Dining Restaurants
When going on a date, which is usually a two-person activity, fine-dining Cantonese restaurants might not be ideal because Chinese dishes are often communal, so it’s better to go with a larger group and sample everything on the table. Thankfully, since Hong Kong is also known as a food heaven, there are plenty of Western restaurants with a romantic vibe.
The city has so many Western fine-dining restaurants. So, I narrowed them down by selecting a few that have a beautiful interior design:
The beautiful interior design does come at a price. Eating here means you’ll have to splurge on the meal because it comes with high-quality food and service.
If any of these interest you, book a table early. Hong Kong restaurants often get booked up fast.
8) Couple’s Photoshoot
Have you ever done a couple’s photoshoot? In Hong Kong, you can rent a qipao, a traditional Chinese outfit often worn in China’s Republican era. You can do this photoshoot indoors or outdoors, and add services like professional makeup.
If the weather isn’t unbearable outside, I recommend the outdoor photoshoot. A professional photographer would take you guys around Central. Use real-world settings to capture the real Hong Kong.
This is a cultural experience you can bond over and take home as a precious souvenir.
9) Hong Kong Observation Wheel

The Hong Kong Observation Wheel is our city’s Ferris wheel located by the Central Pier. With adult tickets at only HKD 20, it’s a highly worthwhile activity. In a confined space above ground, the air-conditioned cabin feels private as it slowly ascends to the top. At the Peak, looking down can feel scary, but it’s a breathtaking sight and makes you feel like you’re on top of the world.
Shared with the person you love, a Ferris wheel ride has total date vibes. It even stays open until 10-11 pm, depending on the day. It’s a perfect end to the day, and you can even walk around the pier to continue the romance.
(For tourists visiting Hong Kong in winter, the Observation Wheel is next to the AIA carnival. This carnival has everything, all the typical attractions, including rides, game booths, and street food.)
10) Beach Walks
Although the beaches are further out from the city center, beach walks at sunset are a romantic activity that doesn’t require money.
I can already imagine the stunning scenery in my head: it’s the sound of the waves crashing with a cool breeze in your hair as the sun is setting. This romantic atmosphere is also relaxing, as a beach walk lets you set your own pace. There’s no time limit to when you have to leave, nor is there pressure to keep up the continuous chatter when you can enjoy nature together, walking or sitting down.
For early birds, you can also watch the sun rise together, although this means waking up at an ungodly hour.
11) Bar Date
When it comes to bars, the best place you can go to is Lan Kwai Fong. Lan Kwai Fong is where you can P-A-R-T-Y. It’s the ultimate party scene in Hong Kong, with seemingly endless bars and clubs all within the area.
This sounds like the opposite of romance, but a bar can be a casual place for a date. Grab a cocktail or any alcoholic drink you fancy. With dim lighting and a drink, it’s easier to open up and bond with one another.
Beyond Lan Kwai Fong, a notable bar I want to talk about is Ozone, inside The Ritz-Carlton hotel. At the 118th floor (yes, you’ve read that right), Ozone is the world’s highest rooftop bar. It has a futuristic theme with open windows overlooking the Victoria Harbour. Come here for something unique as it’s far from your typical bar.
12) Tram Ride

Operating for over 100 years and running only on Hong Kong Island, the tram, otherwise known as Ding Ding, is a living piece of history.
Along with the Star Ferry, these are the two affordable public transport modes that tourists should take if they want to immerse themselves in local culture.
Although the tram network isn’t as efficient as the MTR subway, its slower pace lets you feel the city. It might almost feel like a slow ride in Hong Kong Disneyland.
It’s also a good idea to take the tram ride as a city tour. There might not be a live tour guide, but it’s a more affordable way to see several parts of Hong Kong without paying big bucks.
On this tram journey, take in Hong Kong’s aesthetic, a city known for mixing modern and traditional architecture.
For a truly romantic experience, the best time to visit is in the evening. Climb up the stairs to the upper deck and secure the front row. Be prepared to be amazed at how Hong Kong transforms at night and how beautiful the lights add to the city’s skyline.
Final Thoughts – Romantic Places in Hong Kong
Romance doesn’t always mean grand gestures and emptying your wallet. It’s about sharing moments with the person you love. From glamorous rooftop bars to beach sunsets, Hong Kong offers plenty of romantic places to create that atmosphere.
Review your travel budget and itinerary to see which romantic activities you can fit into your next trip to Hong Kong.
