Another day, another HK restaurant review.
This time, I’m going to talk about a restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui called Good Day Bad Day Mama Day.
Isn’t the name special?
When I first heard about this restaurant, I liked the name immediately. It stood out compared to other restaurant names so it’s something you won’t forget easily. I knew it was a place I wanted to eat at eventually and finally got the chance to recently.
First Impression
Good Day Bad Day is on Granville Road in TST. It’s a place I’m familiar with because I’ve eaten around here a couple of times already. There are plenty of restaurants nearby to try like Outdark, a Korean fried chicken place down the street.
I also tend to shop here for Korean-inspired affordable clothes.
Looking for the entrance to Good Day Bad Day requires careful attention. Their entrance door is smaller so it’s something you have to be on the lookout for or else you can easily walk past it.
If you’re on the other side of the street and look up, there are huge block letters on the first floor that spells out Good Day Bad Day Mama Day. These block letters are an effective method of attracting attention because people can then see they’re in the right place.
It might not be as useful if you’re on the same side of the street though but it at least kind of makes up for the smaller entrance door.
Through the front entrance, there is a colourful staircase with all kinds of bright designs on the walls. The colours might be overwhelming especially when you’re coming here for dinner.
You walk to the restaurant and it’s dark outside. All of a sudden, there’s an explosion of colour. Even the main dining area is decorated with wall art and all kinds of figurines.
It gives off an artistic and youthful vibe.
The Menu at Good Day Bad Day

Unsurprisingly, the menu items have funky names. There’s a pasta dish on the menu called ‘May Disappoint You Mentaiko Fettuccine,’ which I chuckled a little. Isn’t it risky to name your dish with that name? Will it make people not want to order it? Or is it a reverse psychology thing?
They even have something called tempeh dace pizza. Fried Dace with black beans is a popular HK canned food item. I felt iffy about getting fried fish with black beans on my pizza.
These are some of the more interesting menu items and it makes you doubt if the food is good.
Dishes at Good Day Bad Day
1) Cheesy Lobster Fettucine

Good Day Bad Day was extremely seductive with all three words – cheesy, lobster, and pasta. They also had a huge picture of this dish on the first page of the menu. There’s no way you can miss it.
The pasta dish looked extremely appetizing with the lobster tail on top with all that cream sauce under.
When the dish came, it was comforting to know the picture on the menu looked exactly the same in real life. Some restaurants go overboard and make the pictures on the menu look too good. Then in real life, it’s disappointing.
What was a bit unexpected was that the cream sauce was not properly mixed with the pasta. It’s something the customer has to do before serving. Not that I’m complaining. This quick action was satisfying to do and the sound of the sauce with the pasta was heaven.
I’m just kind of sad I didn’t think about taking a video. Looking at the lobster must have made me lose my train of thought.
This pasta dish was very cheesy and filling. Good Day Bad Day did a wonderful job of making the dish look mouthwatering but the taste wasn’t quite there.
It wasn’t bad per se but the fettuccine wasn’t anything fantastic. It tasted like any warm cheesy pasta. The only enticing thing was the lobster on top.
It’s not something I would order again next time.
2) Soft Shell Crab Pizza

The soft shell crab pizza originally was not something we planned to order. We had decided on the things we wanted to eat but my mom wasn’t satisfied with what we ordered.
She asked our server what else he would recommend and he said their soft shell crab pizza is a hit with customers. But their menu stated there was pineapple on their pizza and we weren’t fans of that so we asked them to take it out.
Instead of the typical tomato sauce on a pizza, it was thousand island sauce. I had no idea what to think because I do not ever recall eating something similar. There were also crab sticks on the pizza with a huge fried soft-shell crab on top.
It’s not often I get to enjoy fusion pizza. I usually go for American or Italian pizza like Fini’s and California Pizza Kitchen.
So why not try something new?
I was already at Good Day Bad Day. Being there made me more of an adventurous eater so we ordered a soft shell crab pizza despite being unsure if that was something we would like.
When the pizza arrived, the dough was thinner than we thought.
It’s hard to rate this dish because it’s a weird combination of mayo, crab stick, fried soft-shell crab, and dough.
It’s not bad but it’s not that good. At least this soft-shell crab pizza wasn’t something where you have one bite and realize it’s not for you. I actually ended up eating two slices. It’s memorable, that’s for sure.
3) Crab Crab Crab Meat Crab Butter Fettuccine

Okay, that was a handful to type. What’s with all the LONG names at Good Day Bad Day?
The crab butter fettuccine was again something that wasn’t on our order. However, we observed that about 90% of the tables at this restaurant ordered this. No, I’m not even kidding.
There are dozens of items on the menu, including drinks so why is everyone getting the same thing?
It must be good then.
There are crab sticks, crab claw, and crab roe in the dish. Maybe that’s why Good Day Bad Day called it crab crab crab since there are three different types of crab stuff in there.
The crab pasta was buttery and was sooo good. The taste practically melted in your mouth.
Lesson learned – see what the tables around you are ordering. If a bunch of people is getting the same thing, it might be worth trying.
4) Whatever Fried platter

When you can’t decide on what appetizer to get, get one that has everything in it.
The whatever fried platter doesn’t tell you what’s in it other than the fact that everything will be fried.

We ordered this twice.
The first time around, there was fried shrimp (shaped like tempura), fried cod fish, fries, and chicken wings.
Fries and chicken wings were alright. On the other hand, the fried shrimp and cod were snatched up quickly.
On the whatever fried platter, the restaurant serves mostly fries. Since there was so much of it, we kept munching on them throughout the meal.
My mom liked the fried cod fish so much that she wanted some more. We scanned the menu to see if it was something we can order separately. Since there was none, we ended up getting another appetizer platter.
Good Day Bad Day is smart enough to call it the whatever fried platter. We anticipated the same things as the first time, but this time, the restaurant replaced the fried shrimp with fried oysters.
Oysters are still a type of seafood but it was not what we had wanted.
Guess the fried shrimp sold out. The menu didn’t specify that the whatever fried platter will have fried shrimp but we wanted more so it was still disappointing.
This was another dish that was commonly ordered by the customers and I agree with their choice.
Despite this little issue, Good Day Bad Day is great at fried foods, as seen in their whatever platter.
What Were The Best Dishes?
Hands down, the best dishes at Good Day Bad Day are the crab pasta and the whatever fried platter (the one with the shrimp, not the oyster).
Booking a Table
Good Day Bad Day has an online reservation system on Google or on Openrice. Anyone can book a table at this restaurant within seconds.
Final Thoughts – Good Day Bad Day
Good Day Bad Day is an eccentric café restaurant that is catered to younger people. Most of the restaurantgoers are in their twenties and thirties. It has a very fun vibe and is a good place to take a ton of pictures for Instagram.
They have good restaurant reviews online but I’ve been to places where the restaurant is highly rated but I thought otherwise.
The overall experience was satisfactory. I’m not entirely sure I agree with all the high reviews but it’s also a place I’m open to coming back to eventually.
The next time, it’s going to be the really funky dishes like the fried dace pizza or at least something with an interesting name like peanut butter whitebait fettuccine. And, of course, get the crab crab crab pasta and the whatever fried platter again.
