It was really exciting to hear that a restaurant chain from London, England, called Burger and Lobster was coming to Hong Kong, even if it was only for a limited time.
The restaurant came to HK as a pop-up shop in Ozone, a modern and luxurious bar in the Ritz Carlton, Tsim Sha Tsui.
Fancy, huh?
I miss eating a good lobster roll and according to my memory, Burger and Lobster make a mean lobster roll. I ate there a few times when I was in London.
Many people in Hong Kong have some sort of connection to the UK, whether it’s going to study there for school or having a family member that settled in England. There was a strong feeling that Burger and Lobster would be quite busy for the few weeks they were here as it’s a pretty known chain in the UK. Also, a lot of HK people love seafood, especially lobsters.
First Impression – Burger and Lobster Hong Kong

Since the advertisement said Burger and Lobster were going to be inside the Ozone bar, I booked a table there at 5 pm. It wasn’t until we got there that we found out there was a separate section for Burger and Lobster. Our reservation only applied to the bar and not the pop-up shop.
My mom and I had to speak to a staff member asking if we could get a table at Burger and Lobster. She said that usually, people have to pre-book and put down their credit card information but since we were already there, she would try to talk to her team.
Thankfully, they were accommodating and allowed us to order food from Burger and Lobster. The sole purpose of going there was to eat their lobster roll. It would have been a waste of a trip if they had turned us down.
Our waitress shared that they don’t serve Burger and Lobster menu items until 6 pm so we had an extra hour to kill. I’m not the biggest fan of drinking but hey, I was at a bar. It’s okay to indulge every once in a while, even if it was with my mom.
The next hour passed by quite slowly. The bar was empty. There was even a quick staff meeting going on while we waited. Guess it makes sense since bars are livelier at night.
There’s an outside patio but when we went, the weather was quite chilly. Also, the sky was foggy so you couldn’t see the view. We asked for an indoor table instead and were found to be the only customers indoors. If the weather was nicer, the obvious choice would to be sit outside. The view must be gorgeous from the 118th floor (yes, the Ozone bar is really on the 118th floor!). It just wasn’t our day, I guess.
Food at Burger and Lobster Hong Kong
Lobster Roll

The lobster roll comes with fries, garlic butter sauce, and a salad. It’s like a mini buffet on the tray!
The placement was aesthetically pleasing. It’s perfect for some Instagram photos and throughout dinner, I caught people snapping away on their phones.
The bread was fantastic.
Some restaurants use a hot dog bun for their lobster roll but the one at Burger and Lobster was toasted. The appearance is a little burnt but there’s that crunch you get when it’s toasted bread. The look of it might remind you of French toast, an HK local dish.
The restaurant also didn’t skimp out on the lobster. There were also a lot of lobster pieces inside the roll so it was satisfying.
The lobster roll was bursting with flavour. The bread was warm and chewy while the lobster chunks were cold.
It was a good contrast.
The buttery bread with the mayo lobster made it unnecessary to put in extra sauce. I tried a few bites of the lobster roll with and without the garlic butter sauce. It was better without it.
I devoured this very quickly and may or may not have ordered another of these.
Lobster Roll Sides – Skinny Fries
There were two sides – skinny fries and a salad.
Their fries remind me of Mcdonald’s fries and boy, do I like Mcdonald’s fries. The fries here were crisp and warm. They were all gone by the end of the meal.
I did have to ask for ketchup though, which I found a bit strange. Most restaurants serve ketchup and fries together.
Lobster Roll Sides – Salad
I’m generally not a huge lover of salads. I prefer my vegetables cooked but the salad was quite fresh as well. It’s also not drenched with sauce.
That might taste better to some people but it’s not as healthy. There was a decent amount of salad dressing without it being too much. Most of it was also gone by the end of the meal.
If Burger and Lobster only served the lobster roll by itself, it may not have been filling for a meal. Along with the fries and the salad, you’ll for sure be full after eating everything off the plate.
This dish costs HKD 298. It’s not cheap per se, but for everything included with the lobster roll, it’s a fair price.
Lobster Mac and Cheese

Since this was an appetizer, it should have arrived first but after we finished the first lobster roll and it still didn’t arrive, we reminded our waitress about our mac and cheese.
She brought it out in a red bowl and I was surprised to see how small it was. I know it’s an appetizer but depending on the restaurant, an appetizer can be huge like The Cheesecake Factory. This was clearly not one of them.
Other dishes caught my attention like the pan-fried king prawn and truffle mushroom croquette. However, I picked the lobster mac and cheese over the other two because the menu stated there was lobster bisque in this.
Lobster bisque with mac and cheese?
Fascinating.
The end result was disappointing. The sauce was too creamy. It almost felt like the dish was dense and thick lobster bisque with macaroni in it. There was also more sauce than pasta.
On the bright side, for a small bowl, there were good chunks of lobster. I’m thankful it was a small appetizer so we didn’t need to force ourselves to finish the rest. It was gone in a measly few bites.
What Did People Order?
Whether people were at the bar or at Burger and Lobster, most tables ordered fries. I don’t blame them. They’re pretty good and it’s normal bar food.
A lot of people also ordered lobster mac and cheese. Who knows why because I clearly don’t feel the same way about this dish compared to the other customers that ate there.
Many tables ordered the lobster and burger combo. This is recommended for two people since it’s too much for one person to finish. There’s a whole lobster, a burger of your own choice, a roll of your own choice, and two sides. You get to try a burger dish and a lobster dish, like the restaurant’s name.
Then, people also ordered the lobster roll (duh), which is a signature dish at Burger and Lobster.
Service at Burger and Lobster Hong Kong

I’m fifty-fifty with the service. The staff was accommodating because originally, we did not book a table at the Burger and Lobster section. They also allowed us to stay at the table we were at even though the Burger and Lobster section was on the other side.
But we did have to remind them of our mac and cheese. It didn’t come even after we finished eating our main course. It could be because we weren’t sitting in the right section. We also had to keep flagging a server. Now, to be fair, at bars, servers usually don’t keep coming up to you. They leave you alone unless you call for their attention which is why I’m not too harsh about the service at Burger and Lobster.
They let us stay and ordered food off the Burger and Lobster menu even though we made the wrong reservation. Good enough for me.
Final Thoughts – Burger and Lobster Hong Kong
Maybe the restaurant is doing a trial run before deciding whether or not to open a permanent place in Hong Kong?
In my opinion, Burger and Lobster should definitely open a permanent store here. Lobster tends to be a hit with customers and with the brand name, people will be eager to eat at this place.
People living in the city must also have positive feelings about this restaurant because they extended the pop-up shop for two extra weeks. They were supposed to end in mid-March but now will end in early April.
Anyone who loves a good lobster roll should come to Burger and Lobster. Plus, the place is inside the Ritz-Carlton and connected to the luxury shopping mall, Elements. Bask in luxury all day.
